Carpet tiles and wall-to-wall carpet: the differences and advantages

Carpet tiles are growing in popularity. Modular in design, they are easy to install and transport. Wall-to-wall carpet, on the other hand, has a seamless look and lasts for generations. Choice overload? In this blog, we take a closer look at the major differences, as well as the advantages of each carpet type.

Naturally, we offer both carpet tiles and wall-to-wall carpet at Tapibel. Many of our collections are available in both versions.

Wall-to-wall carpet is available on rolls of 4 m or 5 m in width and we install it across the entire surface. Depending on the size of the project, you simply order as many rolls as needed for the space.

Carpet tiles have a standard size of 50×50 cm and are installed in rows and columns. Together they form a consistent flooring unit. We also offer other sizes at Tapibel, such as 25×100 cm, 100×100 cm and 100×200 cm.

Good acoustics is one of the greatest advantages of carpet. Both wall-to-wall carpet and carpet tiles absorb airborne noise. The advantage of tiles? The SoundBloc finish we offer for projects of 200 m² and larger.

Installing wall-to-wall carpet requires quite a bit more time and effort than carpet tiles. The rolls are heavy, making them more difficult to transport. Carpet tile, on the other hand, are packed in boxes and therefore easier to move from A to B. The installation process itself is also different. In residences, wall-to-wall carpet is installed without glue. In offices and commercial spaces, adhesive is often used. The edges must be trimmed perfectly straight-edged for a good end result.

Carpet tiles are adhered to the floor, so they can be removed afterwards if desired. There is also less cutting waste with tiles because they are smaller in size.

An extra advantage of carpet tiles? They can be installed in phases. You can start with part of your office, hallway or space and then continue with another section later on. In the meantime, you can simply use part of the space as usual. Both practical and convenient!

Both wall-to-wall carpet and carpet tiles are easy to clean and maintain. They only need to be vacuumed around once weekly. Generally speaking, dust and dirt are easier to remove from low-pile carpet than high-pile. Dirt does not embed as easily into the short pile of carpet tiles.

Want a seamless look for your home, hotel room or office? Choose wall-to-wall carpet. With carpet tiles, you may still see the seams, even when installed by a professional. One option is to vacuum so that the seams are less visible. But it is not possible to eliminate the seams altogether.
